About Pitch Perfect

NewWave Foundation seeks entrepreneurs with groundbreaking ideas that have high potential to grow, transform industries and impact communities. Do you have a business venture in need of some support to take it to the next level? We are offering 8 to 10 startup teams the opportunity to pitch their ventures to a panel of expert judges to compete in a friendly competition that will provide founders with access to capital, coaching, executive mentorship and an assortment of startup tools and solutions.

U.S. startups received nearly $161.4 billion in venture funding in 2020. Yet of that funding, Latino-owned companies only received $2.7 billion and Black-owned companies, a mere $1 billion — just 1.7% and .6% of the total volume respectively.

The NewWave Foundation created the Pitch Perfect Startup Showcase to celebrate diverse, emerging founders who are leveraging technology to solve the problems of the present and propelling us into the future.

Entrepreneurs of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. 

The 2021 application deadline was October 17, 2021. This event is open to the public and entry is free.

Who Should Apply

Pitch Perfect application is open and eligible to startup team who:

  • At least one or more members of the founding team must be a current undergraduate or graduate student (full-time or part-time), a recent alum within 2 years of graduation or a former student within 2 years of attending an institution
  • Have one or more member of your founding team that identifies as Black, Hispanic or Latino
  • Are based and legally operating in the United States
  • Have a demonstrable product or service (past idea stage)
  • Lead a technology or technology-enabled business (no agencies or MLM)
  • Are prepared to talk about your venture to the public
  • Have raised or received less than $500,000 in total investment (e.g., equity, convertible notes, government grants, academic grants, digital currency, etc.)

We will be selecting between 8 to 10 teams to pitch. Invites to attend the event will be extended to our mailing list of over 10,000 startup enthusiasts, stakeholders and interested parties.

We have prepared a post-event  line of programming and  partnerships to ensure that our  founders have the adequate  resources to accelerate their  ideas beyond the weekend.

Founders not selected for the competition will have their ideas nurtured and accelerated with access to a series of on-going trainings, tutorials and presentations throughout the calendar year.
